Original: The Teapot Opera by Arthur Tress
For my recreation, I printed the image from the cover of Arthur Tress' Teapot Opera book. I then cut out the theater stage. I constructed a theater by cutting a hole in a cereal box and taping the stage to the front of the opening. I then placed an image of a landscape in the back of the box and used a red napkin to create the stage. Once the set was complete, I arranged seashells on the stage.
The composition is really well done. The only suggestion I have is to increase the lighting. Maybe using a direct light source would make the image more dramatic. I really like how you recreated the theater stage.
ReplyDeleteReally nice composite!
ReplyDeleteNeeds more light, it's rather underexposed
Nice way to recreate the image, nicely done
At first I dint realize Which photo was yours because they both look almost exactly the same, so well done in the recreation aspect. Thoughts ti help with this photo would be brightening up the photo a lot, then increasing some of the contrast.
ReplyDeleteWow this is awesome! Great job on composition, and the effort you obviously put into this! I agree that the darker lighting works well with the "mood" of the "opera," but maybe just a little bit more to even out the lighting on the stage would be more effective, because it would look intentional. Or what about a spotlight?
ReplyDeleteThe theater stage looks just like the original, you did a good job recreating the stage and the space within the stage. It's interesting that you used similar colors, whether this was intentional or not, it works. It would be helpful for there to be more lighting on the shells. By bringing in light on the right side of the subject, you'd really capture the setting of the original photograph.
ReplyDelete-This is a really accurate recreation. I couldn't tell which was yours and which was the real photo
ReplyDelete- I think you could use a little more light, maybe have someone hold a flashlight above it.
- Overall I think the composition is good, I like that the seashells are centered, and as you said, I think it would be a good effect if you could get the whole frame of the opera stage in the picture
This seemed like a fun recreation for you! It might work better if instead of printing out the cover of the book to tape onto the cereal box, if you just cut out the original scene from the original image with the pen tool in illustrator! It's interesting that you chose to keep the dark shadows in your recreation. I like the idea that it reminds the viewer of what the opera is really like, but I think the background somewhat gets lost inside of the frame. I think with a brighter light it would really make the sea shells stand out like the teapot does in the original. Cool idea, I want to try it :)
ReplyDeleteThe picture turned out well. Besides the lighting its very much the same style. The seashells fit into the serene feel of most of his other pieces within the series. I would like to see the same concept but with your own interpretation of the stage as well.
ReplyDeleteI like how you chose to not have the back lite because it feels more like an underwater scene and just the little light that is there mostly hits the lite area in the background overall I think its better than the original.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good recreation! It is an interesting photo. I think if you added some more light though you could really draw out more of the shadows. I also think you should try to photoshop out the tape in the corners. Its a little distracting to me.
ReplyDeletethe image gives you that sensation in which it is difficult to figure out whether this is a "real" stage or not. the distortion and small indications that it is constructed actually adds a level of interest because it reveals the hand of the constructor. lighting on the stage works well. you might be able to remove a slight blue/cyan cast so that the browns are a tiny bit warmer.
ReplyDeleteThe construction of the piece is really well done! Using the cereal box was a smart idea. I think the background with the shells work really well together. The only suggestion I would say is to maybe brighten it up a bit, or add more contrast.
ReplyDeleteI really like your creativity is this image and the way you were able to construct a very similar scene. It is also nice how you made sure that the background related to the foreground. The only thing I would suggest is to increase the lighting on the main subjects. You might find that this would increase the contrast of the shadows you like.
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how well you recreated this photo from the original. I think it is interesting how you used objects that appear similar chemically structured as the teapot. Suggestion might be to have more lighting to create the highlights on the shells.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the concept of this photo. You recreated the idea very well in both the composition and the color palette. I think you could edit this in photoshop under edit>transform>distort you can drag the edges of the photo to make it appear more straight.
